Loreto is a ceramicist, painter and teacher of art and design, living close to the historical town and monastic craft centre of Kells. Her introduction to ceramics began while attending the education faculty in NCAD, and developed into a lifelong passion. The Irish landscape, it's untamed bogs, and it's shorelines, has been an enduring source of inspiration for her paintings and ceramics. Her many travels with sketchbook always to hand, have also formed part of her oeuvre. Hand-building a pot allows Loreto's creative thought to become an ever-present and intrinsic part of her process. Each piece is made slowly and meditatively, using and transforming clay and creating something new, which has never existed before. The individuality and uniqueness of every ceramic piece can be experienced by a new owner or observer, when they hold and enjoy an original piece from the studio rather than a production line.
